Derek Lam Elsa Python Clutch
May 14th, 2009
I have been in love with Derek Lam and his creations, since last spring/summer ‘08 Tod’s bags. His own bags are just as wonderful and lust-worthy too though. This clutch in python is so much better than the plain leather version and the price isn’t exactly bad compared to other plain leather bags that I was browsing. Although I might just be getting desensitized to prices of designer goods. hmm…
Anyway, this is a sexy clutch for anyone’s needs. And it is huge! 6.5″ x 10.5″ x 3″ and come with multiple pockets inside and out to hide/store whatever you need. I only have two clutches in my closet at the moment and neither one exotic, so this might be a good one to start on.
Available at Barneys for $1,450.
Christian Louboutin Marianna Hobo
May 11th, 2009
This bag is proof for all the quotes that say persistance is the true key to success. Christian Louboutin obviously knows how to make a pair of shoes, but his attempts into bag territory have not always been quite as note-worthy (read: FAIL). Even though the designs have been out there in the past, he has always used incredible leathers that are like butter to the touch. But finally his persistance has paid off with this little Marianna Hobo in elefante. I think he took a note from the Bagsnobs and finally made a subtle-y chic bag with of course, the signature red lining. That’s about all the tongue-in-cheek anyone needs anyway. Usually chain straps have me running away, but this strap is wider with the triple chain, which is obviously way more comfy than a single chain. It would conform nicely to the shoulder and the soft, supple leather would mold like a dream to your body. This is also the cutest bag with an outside zipper pocket that still looks chic. I love the zipper pull as well, so geometrically interesting. See, women just need a little bit of uniqueness, we don’t need the whole bag to look like Picasso got a hold of it. Comes with zipper closure with inside pockets and a zipper pocket and cotton lining. The size is indefinably perfect, not too small, not too large…about 13″W x 13″H x 4″D. The price won’t knock you over either: $1,595. Pre-order at Saks.
Diane von Furstenberg Philomena Stud Clutch
May 10th, 2009
What would make the perfect summer clutch this year? I do believe Diane von Furstenberg came up with the best answer: pink metallic leather accented with a hearty dose of feminine studs. Who knew that that could work? But, seriously it does! Isn’t it cute and fun and sexy? I always liked white, but that can’t hold up for a summer of weddings, outdoor festivities, and date-nights without looking worn and tired. And plus I can’t stand dirty, and white doesn’t exactly hide the fact. But metallic leather is the perfect complement to withstand whatever wherever! 6.5″H x 11″L, perfect handheld proportions and can still hold the Crackberry conveniently. There is a magnetic closure that opens up to a small zippered pocket as well as a zippered closure on the main compartment, so plenty of organizational space for you Type A’s and your stuff won’t fall out. I could fall hard for this. Available at Shopbop for $595. Diane von Furstenberg Philomena Stud Clutch
Halston Oversized Nappa Tote
May 1st, 2009

I usually pass on plain, ugly sacks that try and pass themselves off as designer bags, but I make an exception for the Halston nappa tote. This contains an ever-practical inside zipper pocket and a ring to clip your keys to: easy, simple, and utterly satisfying. If you are still thinking this is uglier than a brown paper bag, I completely understand. This bag had to grow on me. Halston uses incredible materials though, the distressed leather is superb if that helps to sway you to the light. I have been checking this bag out for a few months now and still waiting to see if it’s going to go on sale. Available at Netaporter for $1,795. Eeek…it looks chic while carried though!

It’s ALIVE: Carlos Falchi Fringed Hobo
April 29th, 2009
Carlos Falchi calls this a fringed hobo. I have a better name for it. Escaped giant squid/sea monster. This is truly horrific just to look upon, which baffles me. When these designers lay out the plans for a bag, they do see what the bag will look like before it goes to the production line, right? I’m thinking someone had one too many happy drinks while Falchi was on vacation one day and decided that he was going to make the it bag of the season. Exotic snakeskin and crocodile: check. Strategically placed fringe: check. All on the same bag… Somewhere during the design process things got a little hairy. This bag scares me just looking at the Neiman Marcus photos, what does this bag look like dangling from your arm? You’ll have little kids running from you. But don’t worry, I could totally fix the situation. Cut off all that nasty fringe (seriously who said that was in style??) and remove the crocodile tail, and the awful METAL for a shoulder strap (so uncomfortable my shoulder aches just thinking about it) and voila, lovely, simple, snakeskin hobo! One good thing about Carlos Falchi though, he makes superb snakeskin bags, so silky smooth to the touch! Buy through Neiman Marcus for $2,675…if you dare.
Anya Hindmarch Fran Shoulder Bag
April 23rd, 2009
Anyone can design a bag (obviously because I have seen some pretty ugly ones) but Anya Hindmarch still manages to make a classic, gorgeous, statement piece, yet still keep it functional. So many designer bags are out there that aren’t practical, which is totally missing the point of having a handbag. But either way, this designer hits the nail on the mark every time. This calfskin flap could be boring with any other designer, but Anya embellishes it with stones on the closure to make it pop and bring it from plain old functional, to a beautiful piece of art that you can still carry all your crap in! Of course she added on the cushioned shoulder strap too, there is nothing beautiful about lugging around a pretty bag if it hurts your shoulders. And the size is just right at: Height: 27 cm Width: 37 cm Depth: 7 cm Drop: 12 cm. Priced at a nice $788.67, which won’t break the bank. ANYA HINDMARCH – FRAN SHOULDER BAG
Rebecca Minkoff Supernova Stud Devote
April 23rd, 2009
This is the perfect summer hobo. Luxurious, Italian leather vamped up with studs all at an affordable designer price that only Rebecca Minkoff could pull off. You don’t have to twist my arm to convince me, but just in case you didn’t know, I love nearly every single one of her bags. And if you are like me and can’t wait for summer to be here, then this is the perfect handbag to cheer you up and tide you over.

Bottega Veneta Copper Python Clutch
April 22nd, 2009
How over-the-top fabulous is this clutch? If the price was somewhat more reasonable, it would be an absolutely fabulous clutch, but when you are asking $4,100 for a little bit of python…well, there is nothing else to call it! Of course, Bottega Veneta might be able to get away with it, but I prefer to admire this copper python clutch from afar. But I couldn’t resist how something that is a trend can be such a classic! Metallics go with just about everything, and the soft folds make this one interesting and give it a cool vibe. Available at Netaporter.
