Bakelite Bangles at Barneys

Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

bakelite

I found out a pleasant surprise a few weekends ago. Actually right after Barney’s started selling terrifyingly expensive vintage bakelite bangles, I discovered that my lovely mom has been collecting them for several years already. Whew! Thank goodness, at least I can borrow hers any time without dropping some serious cash on a more expensive form of plastic. It is lovely, with a ceramic-like sheen, but still!! $4,000 for a bracelet?? Well, actually they have one for OVER $10,000. So if you happen to have a mom who has been secretly collecting them already, then count your lucky stars, because these are an investment! You can see all of Mark Davis’s bakelite jewelry at Barneys.

Hermes Collier de Chien Bracelet

Monday, April 6th, 2009

HermesI am not really into the Studs look. The current trend has just never moved me. But of course if Hermes says it’s okay, then I can’t really argue. So, I could rock this little Collie de Chien Bracelet and pretend I’m cool and edgy, and secretly know that I’m not really, but I am still stylish! This is available in other colors as well as gold hardware and priced at $1,000. At Hermes.

Sunshine Yellow Accessories

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

What better color than sunshine yellow to perk me up out of cold, rainy, winter doldrums. A color that usually is reserved for summer, is making a comeback in the colder months. But I would rather be cheery than remember that I’m not in Florida on vacation or out in Colorado skiing some great slopes. I’ll just satisfy myself with these cute accessories at Net-a-porter.com:

This Roberto Cavalli Snake Bracelet is a stunning piece. Made out of gold-tone enamel, with yellow and white enamel detailing. Stunning! Buy through Net-a-porter for $425.

Even Lanvin is jumping on the bright yellow bandwagon. Maybe the neon-80’s trend is contagious? Either way, I’m liking the cute ballet flats available for $530.

Diamond Stud Earrings

Saturday, December 6th, 2008

I had every single piece of valuable jewelry stolen from me about two months ago. I have been thinking about replacing some of my favorite pieces, such as my pearl necklace and earrings, but I also realize that I am missing a great pair of diamond stud earrings. Those are just as classic as pearls, every girl needs a pair of each. Luckily, while searching to replace my pearls at Mondera, I found this coupon code to use at check-out. That is one way to make the Christmas season a bit merrier! See all jewelry at Mondera.

Chanel J12

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

chanelj122

I do not wear a watch. I had one watch while I was in high school that I loved until I lost it (ugh) and have never replaced it. My husband loves watches and I know more than I really care to about the different varieties and brands. My husband likes to educate me on everything cool and techy, so if you ever need help with a sound system (or any electronic for that matter), just ask my better half. He’s like James Bond when it comes to gadgets. However, when it comes to a watch, I like it simple. No extras, even though Chanel makes some gorgeous watches with pink sapphires, diamonds, or rubies! But I will stick to the more affordable options and keep it simple and easier on the wallet. Isn’t this Chanel J12 classic? I love white, and the ceramic band will last forever, unlike leather bands that eventually will need to be replaced. You can inquire through your local Chanel Boutique. This watch retails for $4,150,  which is around the same price as the Omega that my husband has been eyeing. Apparently, it can cut through steel with a little laser in case we ever get trapped on a train with a time bomb and need to make a quick getaway. Or he wishes. Anyway, since I have managed without a watch for so long already, I would get my hubby the Omega before I spoiled myself with a Chanel. If you are looking for a deal though, Jomasshop has it available for $3,157.

Louis Vuitton Key Charms

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

As I was surfing through Eluxury for a surprise for a special someone (shh!) I got a little distracted looking at the cute charms. Of course I skip over the affordable, slightly reasonable Juicy Couture charms and head straight for the Louis Vuitton eye candy. It’s a special ability I have, stick me in any store no matter what they are selling and I will head straight for the most expensive item. Apparently, it works on the Internet too. If you are in need of superbly overpriced useless pieces of cuteness then check out what I found:

Louis Vuitton Hatbox Key Holder

Louis Vuitton Hatbox Key Holder

Priced at $550. Would it be tacky to ask for a discount? Or is it tacky to charge that much for a charm!?

Louis Vuitton Alzer Key Holder

Louis Vuitton Alzer Key Holder

Also priced at $550. Maybe they do a buy one get one free?

One of LV’s newest and cutest, buy it for $355.

How to: Your Wardrobe and Closet

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

I know how overwhelming shopping and creating a timeless wardrobe can be, or a wardrobe that reflects you. There are just so many things out there to buy, but then you feel like you can’t find anything in your closet when it comes time to throw something on. I found three books that do wonders for putting shopping and building a closet into perspective. It will not feel so overwhelming and you will realize that as long as you have a few key pieces in any one category, then you are good to go! It really is simple once you boil it down to a few key things:

  • Don’t buy anything unless it can go with at least two things in your closet. or something like that…
  • Don’t buy anything that is on sale if you would not consider it at retail. Very good point!
  • Spend money on the classic pieces that you can wear for more than a few seasons (i.e. a nice suit, skirts and jacket separates, nice cashmere sweaters, etc). One trendy handbag or pair of stilettos should not eat into your entire clothing budget for the year.
  • Only buy clothes, etc that flatter your figure and coloring. Don’t you dare go out and buy something because it looked good on so-and-so.

Obviously, there are many more practical points, but every woman should spend an afternoon and throw all of their clothes on the bed to reorganize and take account of everything they have. It will make it easier to weed out stuff you don’t wear and probably never will wear again and make more room in valuable closet space for pieces that you need! I am getting ready to move into our new house in a few weeks so I’m waiting to reorganize my wardrobe then. You will feel better after reading these books that help facilitate the process of not being overwhelmed in a world where there are so many d%#m choices.

The Lucky Manual and Shopping Guide are amazing! I love the magazine for its focus on affordable, chic pieces, but the books really send the message home. This is what inspired me to focus on my own wardrobe. And it never hurts to dive into Shop Your Closet either for basics on organizing…like how to store those super-nice cashmere sweaters that you bought. Just click on the images to see where to buy, etc. All through Barnes and Noble.

Pink is the New Black

Monday, November 17th, 2008
I couldn’t resist, there is so much pink at Saks…and we’re not even to Thanksgiving yet. Maybe I am just wishing I had a Florida vacation planned for the holidays…the cold weather is getting to my Southern sensibilities. Pink never hurt anybody right? Besides, Black can only do so much to liven up the holiday season…
